The Diagnosis

Fibromyalgia is a truly systemic illness.  It is a non-degenerative, non-inflammatory, non-progressive neurotransmitter dysfunction.  It affects all four quadrants of the body and the spine.  On occasion there can be nerve and vascular entrapments from the trigger points involved.  Fibromyalgia (FMS) and Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) are painful conditions that are compounded by  mechanical stresses such as body asymmetry, scoliosis or kyphosis, shallow breathing, immobility, poor body mechanics, and poor posture.  This condition can influence bouts of depression, problems with concentration, memory and sleeplessness that promote more anxiety, fatigue and stress feeding the continuation of the pain cycles.

Treatment

Physical Therapy interventions have been proven to positively affect FMS and MPS symptoms and pain severity.  At Wellness One, we treat many patients with FMS and MPS.  Many of our patients who have not responded to other treatments do respond to the expert individualized hands-on therapy by our skilled therapists.
